Join our specialist guides for a captivating snorkelling experience at Nosy Sakatia. Located to the west of Nosy Be, towards Andilana, Nosy Sakatia offers a fabulous snorkelling spot. Its shallow waters (2 to 3 metres) are ideal for encounters with green turtles (chelonia mydas), which come to feed at high tide. Around the deeper patates, you may be lucky enough to spot groupers, jacks and kingfish on the hunt. A large shoal of dolphinfish has also taken up residence in the area.
Embark on a boat for a rare and sensational experience: swimming alongside the biggest fish in the world, the mythical whale shark. Present in Nosy Be from the end of September until the end of December, whale sharks come to feed in the rich waters of the region. This impressive animal is completely harmless, so there is no risk in approaching it. It is also possible to observe reef or oceanic manta rays, as well as flights of mobula rays. Omura’s whale, which also feeds on plankton, can join the party.
Our guides are trained to respect animals. We will apply the whale shark approach charter promulgated by the Whale Shark Project (code-of-conduct). A briefing and explanations of the species encountered will be given before the boat is launched, so that we can offer the animal the best possible encounter. It’s worth pointing out that we’re operating in a natural environment with a wild animal, and although we’re getting very close to a 100% success rate, this cannot be guaranteed.
